Where the comparisons come from

Our coverage follows the German market, but the brands themselves come from 26 different countries. German manufacturers dominate the comparison set (about 93% of all comparisons feature at least one German brand) — but Japanese, Korean and American brands have a strong presence reflecting actual cross-shopping patterns.

Brands missing from this list haven’t failed quality criteria; they simply don’t appear in comparisons yet. We add a brand once we have at least three published comparisons featuring it — under that threshold, the brand page would be too thin for editorial value.

What “by brand” means here

A comparison is “featuring brand X” if at least one of the cars compared is from that brand. Comparisons can feature multiple brands — the A4 vs 3 Series vs C-Class comparison is counted under all three of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The sum of per-brand counts therefore exceeds 27.

Brand vs Marque

We use brand for the consumer-facing nameplate (Audi), not the legal entity (Audi AG). This matches how readers search and how the catalog organises models. Sub-brands like AMG, RS and quattro GmbH are folded into their parent brand.

Coverage roadmap

In Q2 2026 we add BYD, Polestar, MG and Genesis to brand coverage as their German market presence reaches the three-comparison threshold. Audi additions: dedicated subpages for the e-tron lineup.

About brand-based browsing

Why doesn’t this list include every brand on sale in Germany?

A brand only appears here once we have at least three published comparisons featuring it. Below that threshold, the brand landing page would be too thin for editorial value — and our policy is to never publish stub pages. Brands on the coverage roadmap include BYD, Polestar, MG, Genesis, Lexus and Suzuki; they will appear as their comparison count grows.

How is this different from the catalog brand pages?

The catalog documents every model from every brand — full technical reference, archive brochures, generation lineages. Brand comparison pages are different: they only list comparisons (cross-brand, generation, trim) where that brand appears, plus editorial commentary on shopping that brand. A buyer in “narrowing” mode wants the catalog; a buyer in “deciding” mode wants the comparison brand page.

Are sub-brands like AMG, M, RS treated separately?

No — they are folded into the parent brand. AMG comparisons appear under Mercedes-Benz, M variants under BMW, RS variants under Audi. Most buyers cross-shop performance variants by parent brand, not by the sub-brand label. Sub-brand information is kept at the comparison level via tags and structured data.

Why no Lexus or Acura?

German-market sales volume. Lexus has been below the three-comparison threshold because of its small dealer network in Germany — its models compete in segments dominated by German premium brands, but the cross-shopping rate is too low to justify dedicated comparisons. Acura isn’t officially sold in Europe. We track both and will add Lexus when it reaches the threshold.

Is the brand page or segment page better for shopping?

They are different starting points. Brand works if you have already committed to a manufacturer or are deciding between two brands you trust. Segment works if you know roughly the size and price range but the brand is still open. About 60% of readers start from segment and 40% from brand, but both paths lead to a specific comparison about equally often.
