Vehicle History Check

Enter a VIN or licence plate. We query open government registries for odometer plausibility, inspections, registration data and recalls — a first-pass filter, not a replacement for a full commercial report.

VIN decoding runs on a US database, so a European VIN gives us the manufacturer but not the model. Naming the car here unlocks the EU recall alerts, which are matched by model.

Pick a country to check just its database, or choose “All databases” to search everywhere.

We'll query every open source available for this country and key.

Checking a Polish car?

Poland's public register has no per-VIN mileage, but we can show the aggregated profile for this make. Open the dedicated Polish check.

Dutch plate?

RDW is the only registry here that issues an official odometer judgement, and it works from the licence plate alone.

Imported vehicle?

If this car was imported and you know its previous foreign plate, enter it for the full history — imported cars lose their domestic history at the border.

Where else to check this car

Country by country: the official register, who is allowed to search it, and what it will tell you.

Treat our result as a first pass, not a verdict. We can only answer from registers that publish open data, and most of Europe does not — a clean result here often means we had nothing to check, not that the car is clean. Before you pay for a car, go to the official source for its country below. Where that source is closed to buyers, a paid commercial report is the remaining option.

Automobilisto is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government agency.

Questions about the vehicle history check

Is the vehicle history check really free?

Yes. The check and a free account cost nothing, at any point. The free account only unlocks the full detail and lets you save vehicles.

Which countries and data are covered?

Today: the official RDW odometer verdict for Dutch plates, factory specifications and US recall campaigns for any VIN, and manual-check links for Czechia, Poland, Denmark, France, Belgium and Germany. More sources are being added — see the coverage page.

Why is there no mileage for German cars?

No German registry publishes per-vehicle odometer data. For a German car you get factory specifications, recalls and — where data allows — a statistical mileage comparison, never a blank result.

Do you store my VIN or licence plate?

Lookups are cached by a one-way hash of the identifier; the raw VIN or plate is never stored alongside your IP address.
