Car comparisons, measured rather than argued
Every comparison here starts with the same set of figures, taken from manufacturer documentation and checked against a second independent source. We name the editor, publish the method, and take no money from anyone whose car is in the table.

This week's featured comparison
Eight years apart: what actually changed between the last two A4 generations
The B10 is longer, heavier and quieter than the B9, and its entry engine makes more power on less fuel. Whether any of that justifies the price step is a different question — we measured both, generation by generation.

TrimHow we compare
We take the manufacturer's own figures, check each one against a second independent source, and publish the result whether or not it flatters the newer car. Where sources disagree, we say so in the table instead of picking the number that reads better. Nobody pays to appear here, and no link on this page earns us a commission.
